“Child abuse was a way of life” in the YFZ community. “Their definition of abuse may be very different from what society sees as abuse,” Carolyn Jessup told Hoda on the Today Show. Jessup lived with the YFZ community (a religious sect of Mormonism, the leader of which has been jailed for forcing a 14 year old girl to have sex with her 19 year old first cousin) in Colorado City. She escaped with $20 in her pocket and her children. She says it would be extraordinarily difficult for a woman to escape from the islated Texas compound which is like a fortress or locked-down prison.
We at Peacock & Paisley are keeping an eye on the progress of protecting the children involved. Stay tuned.
Do you have experience with this sect, or with and LDS members? If so, tell about it in the comments.
I came across Child’s Way Out while researching the YFZ situation. It is a rescue organization founded by the neice of Warren Jeffs. Here is the web address: http://www.childswayout.org/index.html
Please let us know if you find anything else.
Do you know Carolyn? Have you been in a situation like this?
Thanks for reading, and please stay in touch.
