Mood Boosting Foods

On today’s The View, Rosie O’Donnell and Joy Behar spoke with nutritionist Joy Bauer. Bauer has written the book Food Cures, which outlines which foods cause bad moods and which ones boost good moods.

The top 3 depression-fighters are:

  1. Omega-3 fats like those found in salmon and flax seed. Average dose is about 1000 mg per day.
  2. Potent Vitamin B’s: B12 and Folic Acid, found in tuna, dairy, seafood, edamame.
  3. Vitamin D!!! This one’s a biggie, especially if you live in the north and suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (commonly known as the Winter Blues). You can find milk and some cereals supplemented with Vit. D, but your body will produce it if exposed (carefully) to sunlight. About 10 minutes a day will start to help.

Food is an important part of religious observance and spiritual ritual for many faiths including
Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism. The role of food in cultural practices and
religious beliefs is complex and varies among individuals and communities. Any introduction to
such a diverse and complex topic will not be able to include everything. Instead, here is a sample
of some ways in which various religious groups include food as a vital part of their faith. for more information feel free to browse http://holy-food.org
